Pretzels came to the United States at the turn of the twentieth century coming with German immigrants to Pennsylvania. The pretzel is no stranger to the combination of sweet and salty treats. In the 1900s people in Philadelphia crumbled pretzels to use as a topping for ice cream, eventually developing a pretzel ice cream cone.
